Fiction Friday – The Prologue

No writing prompt this week.  This week I’m going with something else I’m working on and I thought I’d give you a taste.

Like a dealer.

First taste is free.  You want more, you come ask and maybe we work something out.

What follows fell from my brain to my fingers one night in anticipation of grand designs and delusions of grandeur future success.  It is saved on my computer as simply “Prologue”.  I’ve quite a few ideas like this one packed away in the cluttered closet of my imagination and I’m nervous anxious to get them on paper and in someone else’s hands.

With that in mind, I sincerely hope you enjoy today’s Fiction Friday.  I give you “Prologue”. … Continue Reading

Fiction Friday – The Tooth Fairy

I know I missed last week and I’m sure you’ve spent that last week stalking the halls of MCPD looking for more fiction.  And then I go almost all day before I post it.

Such a tease.

At any rate, here is this week’s iteration of Fiction Friday.  As always, I love the feedback and constructive criticism (casts an eye toward the Great White North…you know who you are), so please keep it coming!  This week’s prompt from Writer’s Digest limits me to 500 words.  Enjoy!

The Tooth Fairy visits your house in the middle of the night, only she isn’t just taking your children’s teeth. What is she stealing from your house and how do you attempt to stop her? … Continue Reading

Better late than never, right?

Here’s this week’s iteration of Fiction Friday.  I used a prompt from Writer’s Digest Guide to Creativity (Nov. 29, ’09).  I procrastinated a bit this week (as I have been known to do), so I didn’t use the WD website prompt.

The prompt:

A woman buys a gun for home defense, but two days later she can’t find it.

I hope you’re enjoying these weekly forays into a different kind of writing for me.  I’ve appreciated the feedback!  Feel free to keep it coming.  Without further ado, I give you…The Pistol.

Fiction Friday – The Ex-Girlfriend

Two weeks in a row?!?

Look at me keeping to a schedule.  At any rate, this week’s Writer’s Digest prompt finds the setting in a bar.  One of my favorite places, to be sure.  That is where the comparisons end.  The assignment was 500 words or less.  I came in at 485.

Here’s hoping you enjoy week two and keep coming back for a little change of pace at MCPD!

While out at a bar, your old high school sweetheart approaches you and gives you an unexpected kiss right on the lips. This causes you to have one intense reaction that will lead to a very memorable night—but not for good reasons.

Fiction Friday – The Condemned House

condemned

Time to put my money where my mouth is.  I’m going to try to get this done every Friday this year.  Writer’s Digest has a plethora (fancy word-smithing for shit-load…I gotta stretch that vocabulary muscle, right?) of writing prompts available to the aspiring writer.  I finally took the plunge and subscribed to their digital magazine in the hopes of lighting a fire under me.

The only instruction for the prompt was to keep the story to 750 words.  I hope you enjoy what follows.

The writing prompt I used this week was:

You return to the house where you grew up,

only to learn it has been condemned.
