Peace Officers For Christ – Mt. Hermon Couple’s Conference

January 31, 2012 Training 7 Comments
pofci

For the past year or so, I’ve been involved in an organization that focuses on bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ to fellow officers.  The Northern California Chapter of Peace Officers for Christ International has been rebuilding over the past year and we are moving toward big things in conjunction with the incredible folks over at KLOVE.  I’ll have more on that in the future.

For now, however, I’m happy to announce a couple’s retreat at Mt. Hermon in the Santa Cruz mountains on April 27 -29, 2012.  This retreat is geared specifically toward law enforcement and their spouses to bring a fantastic weekend of teaching, worship, recreation, seminars and lifecoaching.

You can check out the details regarding cost and some of the speakers at Mt. Hermon’s website as well as some of the fun activities available including zip lining, rock climbing walls, game room, and swimming.  POFCI wants to invite you to come relax and recharge with your spouse in a beautiful surrounding.

And just as a reminder to all on both sides of the law, I give you Romans 13:3-5.

3 For the authorities do not strike fear in people who are doing right, but in those who are doing wrong. Would you like to live without fear of the authorities? Do what is right, and they will honor you. 4 The authorities are God’s servants, sent for your good. But if you are doing wrong, of course you should be afraid, for they have the power to punish you. They are God’s servants, sent for the very purpose of punishing those who do what is wrong. 5 So you must submit to them, not only to avoid punishment, but also to keep a clear conscience.

Music Monday – Guilty Pleasure

We all have them.  It’s the song you can’t help but tap your toes, bang on your steering wheel, or grab your light sticks and….well, perhaps not the last one.

Last week, I introduced you to “our song” (the Wife and mine, not yours and mine, freak).  This week, it’s a song the Wife can’t believe I love.

Oh, and I love it.  The video is absolutely God-awful.  Except for Bootsy.

Bootsy kills it.

When this song hits my ear holes and I’m riding the bike, the ride gets just a skosh more funky.

What about you?  What’s your musical guilty pleasure?

The Crossover Show – Happy Medic Does the Dishes

Yup. You read that right. I talked HM into doing the dishes so I could get this post out to the lot of you. I am a modern day Huck Finn.

In this, our last teenage episode, we talk about collisions and when they are documented, evidence-based medicine, and some pretty kick ass Kilted to Kick Cancer news.

Enjoy our last episode before we hit that crap year between being teenagers and being able to drink. What a dumb year.

Modern Warfare 3 (alt. title: “I’m going to shoot you in the face”)

“911, what is your emergency?”

“I just heard my neighbor yelling at someone.  He said he was going to shoot someone in the face!”

Imagine getting dispatched to that detail.  Tactical decisions begin hurtling through one’s head.  Do we need air support?  We need to get Fire to stage for casualties.  Where’s the best spots for perimeters?  Where should the Command Post be?  How many long guns are deployed right now?  Should we prep SWAT?  Does this fall into the Active Shooter scenario?  Do we wait or do we grab as many warm bodies as we can and make entry?

It’s enough to make one’s head swim.  Here’s one possible way it could play out: … Continue Reading

Fiction Friday – The Pistol

Better late than never, right?

Here’s this week’s iteration of Fiction Friday.  I used a prompt from Writer’s Digest Guide to Creativity (Nov. 29, ’09).  I procrastinated a bit this week (as I have been known to do), so I didn’t use the WD website prompt.

The prompt:

A woman buys a gun for home defense, but two days later she can’t find it.

I hope you’re enjoying these weekly forays into a different kind of writing for me.  I’ve appreciated the feedback!  Feel free to keep it coming.  Without further ado, I give you…The Pistol.

As you may or may not be aware, I enjoy a good laugh.  Thus, I follow Daniel Tosh on both Facebook and Twitter.  Today, he posted a video of me directing traffic.

Okay, I’m not Pilipino…but still.  Use your imagination!

Music Monday

As some of you may know, I’ve gotten quite a bit of inspiration from Jon Acuff (@jonacuff on Twitter).  If you are unfamiliar with Jon, click over to his blog and check him out…after you’re done here.  He doesn’t need the stat numbers like I do.  ;-)

Jon writes two distinct blogs: Stuff Christians Like (SCL) and what I’ll call an Inspirational/Motivational blog.  The former  is a satirical look at Christianity today.  If you are or know or heard about Christians, you’re missing out if you’re not reading Acuff.  The latter blog is geared around his book Quitter.  If you’ve not read it, again, you’re missing out.  Quitter is about closing the gap between your day job and your dream job.  Jon has taken that book and is starting to change thousands of lives.

My free ad for Jon notwithstanding, I found a feature he introduced earlier this month and I liked it so much, I figured I nick it.  He calls his feature the “Saturday Song” and each Saturday during January, he has posted a song that has inspired him at some point in his life.

I figure imitation is the greatest form of flattery, so I’m introducing Music Monday.  A clever twist and much manlier than Saturday Song according to my official poll results.* … Continue Reading
